“Our family had a very disappointing experience with Conway Behavioral Health. We sent my disabled brother there because he has mental health issues and we wanted him to receive the help he needed. One of our biggest concerns was the lack of communication. They refused to communicate with his grandmother, who is heavily involved in his care, and with his care coordinator. Every time questions were asked about his treatment or discharge, it felt like they became defensive. My brother told us he was threatened with being kept longer if he continued asking questions or if family members kept calling to ask about his care. Another serious concern involved his medications. Just two days before he was admitted, he had suffered a seizure because he wasn’t taking his trileptal. After arriving, his medication was changed and he was instead given Vistaril and Trazadone, which left him heavily sedated. Because he was so drowsy, he couldn't participate in activities like group and everything like that. Staff then documented that he was "not participating" and was "obsessive about discharge," even though the medication itself appeared to be preventing him from engaging. He also suffers from schizophrenia and was taking seroquel for that. he was taken off of it as well. When we tried to pick him up, his care coordinator reviewed his care chart and noticed numerous notes being added at the a little after we had shown up. The notes on his treatment plan seemed focused on justifying keeping him there longer. We were left with the impression that extending his stay was being prioritized over getting him home when it was appropriate. We were also told that if my brother simply checked himself out, the facility would not receive insurance reimbursement unless he was placed on a 72-hour hold, which raised serious concerns for our family about how decisions were being made. Finally, my brother told us he witnessed another patient suffer a severe hand injury, nearly cutting off a finger. According to him, a seperate patient had to make a scene before anybody would be able to receive medical attention because staff were not responding promptly. Based on our family's experience, we left feeling that communication, patient advocacy, and individualized care were lacking. We hope this review encourages the facility to improve communication with families and ensure patients receive appropriate medical attention and treatment based on their individual needs.”

“My experience at Conway Behavioral Health was extremely concerning and disappointing. I came there needing care, safety, structure, and support, but what I experienced felt far from therapeutic. During my stay, I felt that patients were often overly medicated rather than genuinely treated. The environment did not feel focused on healing. Group therapy was inconsistent and rarely occurred, and I did not receive meaningful one-on-one therapy. I only saw the doctor once during my stay, which was very troubling given the level of care patients are supposed to receive in an inpatient behavioral health setting. The staff often appeared indifferent, overwhelmed, or disconnected from the needs of the patients. Compassion, communication, and basic attentiveness were lacking on a daily basis. For people in crisis, that kind of environment can feel not only neglectful, but emotionally damaging. I also became aware of serious safety concerns during my time there, which only added to my fear and discomfort. Overall, my stay felt more like being managed or sedated than actually being helped. I believe behavioral health patients deserve dignity, consistent therapy, medical oversight, compassion, and a safe healing environment. Unfortunately, that was not my experience at Conway Behavioral Health.”

“this place is horrible and i still have nightmares about it to this day. nurses didn’t want to clean up after a schizophrenic patient that couldn’t go to the bathroom herself. i didn’t want to be in filth so i cleaned up pee from the group therapy room into the hallway. i took a piece of the table from the cafeteria away from another patient when he tried to use it to harm himself. i got in trouble for praying for another patient when nothing else was working for him. they put me on the highest dose of lexapro and i didn’t get 1 on 1 therapy until 3 days after i was there. it was terribly cold, some of the staff were kind but the entire system there is horrible. i was placed with so many different types of kids that there was barely any action taken to helping me with my specific problem. i was in a unit with kids that were schizophrenic, in there for swerving their cars off the road when drunk, depression, anxiety, parental issues, anger issues and more. in the end, this place made me significantly more sad than i was to see others like that. it’s been a year and my heart still hurts for them the same as it did when i met them that day.”

“I went here in 2023, worst experience of my life. They made me stay out of my room until 5 in the evening. They talked bad about you, didn’t pay you any attention. One time I was feeling faint and felt like I was about to pass out, and the woman accused of me faking it, and told me if I didn’t calm down, and take my meds, I was gone be put in the strait jacket. And locked in the quiet room, or somewhere by myself for the rest of the day. Wouldn’t recommend it for anyone really needing help. And then after that, I attempted to kill myself. And almost succeeded. I was in UAMS with a broken femur, that I had to get screws in, a a big rod or screw in my back, had to have an invasive neck surgery. 0/10 wouldn’t wish the person I can’t stand the most to come here.”
